Fort Igmand is the most modern and most
southerly element of the fortification
system, which was built to protect the south
entrance of the town. It was named after
Igmand, a country town nearby. In this area
an earthen fortification was erected, which
was strengthened by a stockade during the
fight for freedom in 1848-49. Later it was
demolished and another one was built on that
site between 1871-1877; it became an
inseparable part of the new defence system.
With its completion the enormous
fortification system was finished in
Komárom-Komárno.
